Tonk Talk …
THE BIBLE IS NOT AN ILLUSION
Have you seen this illusion before? Is it a duck or a rabbit? Well, it depends on how you tilt the drawing. Sometimes people do this with the Bible. They “tilt” the Bible text or even sometimes ignore what the Bible says. For example, some people will say all a person has to do to be saved is to say “the sinner’s prayer” and “ask Jesus into their heart.” Now is prayer essential to followers of God? Yes. James 5:16 teaches, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” Prayer is a powerful thing for the Christian, but nowhere in God’s word do we see that salvation and remission of sins are bestowed on one outside of Christ when they pray. We do read that a person’s sins are taken away when they believe in Christ and are baptized (Mk. 16:16). At baptisms we see "one calls upon the Lord" and "have their sins washed away" (Acts 22:16).
In Matthew 7:24 Jesus teaches, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. “ Then in Heb. 5:8,9 it teaches that those who obey Christ’s teaching will be saved.
The Bible is not an illusion to be “tilted” and turned any way we want. The word of God is to be obeyed and applied to our life. Will we take God at His word or will we try to “tilt” it?
